Muscle Mass And Balance
Work gives you money for the necessities of life and hopefully a few luxuries. At the same time, being a workaholic is bad for your physical and mental health…not to mention building muscle mass! You need to strike a balance. If possible, modify your work habits and timetable in a way that will maximize growth. Spread out your work schedule so that it accommodates the demands of your training. Don't procrastinate until the last minute to finish your assignments. Plan ahead just as you'd do with your training, anticipating the demands that your boss and work associates will make on you. When things are slow at work, charge ahead with your training program. Then, when work demands must dominate, shift gears and temporarily switch your priorities. Always think long-term even if you’d like muscle mass. These ebb and flow periods will balance out over time, allowing you to develop your physique and your career simultaneously. Don't get frustrated when you miss a training session because of your job. Everything will work out in the end. Meanwhile, focus on how good it will feel when you get to the gym again.
Remember to watch the foods you eat during busy work periods. Don't succumb to the temptation to eat junk food when you're in a hurry. Remember that your body grows during recuperation periods, not while you're at the gym. It only takes a few minutes to pack a lunch and some snacks with foods that are full of protein and low in fat. Healthy prepared meals are also available near most workplaces. Instead of seeking a release from the stress of your work by eating junk, remind yourself about the benefits of eating all that nutritious food.
The concept of balance also extends to friends and family. Spending time with these people enriches your life by opening your mind to new ideas and attitudes that will help you in life. While there is never enough time to do everything you want, a balance between your work, training and social/family commitments will make you a well-rounded person. Even better, it will give you the perspective and confidence you need to grow as an individual, both mentally and physically. A balanced approach to life will therefore help you to gain muscle mass.
